Our trip to Wales in our campervan, Walt, was all about embracing the unexpected—and nothing summed that up better than our visit to Sygun Copper Mine.
It was one of those spontaneous decisions. We hadn’t planned it in detail, hadn’t watched loads of videos or read endless reviews—we just knew it existed and thought, “why not?” Sometimes those are the best kinds of adventures.

One of the main reasons we decided to go was actually the convenience for campervan travel. You can stay overnight in the car park for around £10, which is an absolute win when you’re travelling on the road. It made the whole visit feel relaxed—no rushing, no worrying about where to park next. If you’re looking to do the same, details for staying overnight at Sygun Copper Mine can be found on apps like Search for Sites and Park4Night, which we always rely on during our trips.

Arriving there, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of Snowdonia National Park, we still didn’t quite know what to expect. But the moment we stepped inside the mine, it completely exceeded anything we had imagined.
The experience is self-guided, which makes it even more immersive. As you walk through the tunnels, you’re taken on a journey back in time—following the lives of the miners who once worked there. The narrow passages, dim lighting, and the sound of water echoing through the rock create an atmosphere that’s both eerie and fascinating. It really gives you a sense of how tough and dangerous life must have been underground.

What surprised us most was just how engaging it all was. We thought it might be a quick look around, but it turned into something much more memorable. It felt like a proper adventure—one of those experiences that sticks with you long after you leave.

Waking up the next morning in Walt, right there in the peaceful Welsh countryside, just added to it. There’s something special about staying somewhere that also turns out to be such a hidden gem.
All in all, visiting Sygun Copper Mine turned out to be far more fulfilling and exciting than we ever expected. It’s one of those places that quietly surprises you.

If you ever find yourself in the area, I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough.
